WI,IL vs La

So here we are in LA! Today it finally showed us it's ugly summer heat! I guess my friends from the north have been miserable from the heat and here it's been mostly pleasant besides the mass amounts of rain.

So my apartment has a great view!

Apparently my insurance company doesn't like the view as much because they won't cover us! Thank goodness this is temporary! Something about flooding or some ridiculous thing like that... Which brings me to the nice little tidbit we heard right before we got here. So glad we got the warning! LA has the most expensive insurance in the US. Fabulous!

There are a few differences that I have noticed.

Mosquitoes have the power of invisibility. I am covered in mosquito bites but haven't seen any...hmmm. I miss the bird sized mosquitoes you can see coming!

Milk is hella expensive! It's about double what we pay in the midwest! Damn those happy cows being in WI.

Fruit is a little bit cheaper, but not by much.

People are nice. The checker forgot to put my WI cheese in my bag at the grocery store. He came running out to give it to me!

They don't have our floss here :( we have to switch brands. They do however have already brewed coffee in the refrigerated section in a special bottle that can measure out a shot of coffee i can only assume would be for iced coffee but i guess you can also heat it up. why wouldn't you just brew your own? weird!

Why fix the roads?

The weather doesn't necessarily come from the west it comes from the south east or at least it has this last week.

We are in the process of looking at houses. This is not a fun experience. I used to watch the shows about people trying to buy houses and think the people were being over dramatic...now I completely understand.

Amid the chaos I have been reluctantly practicing my finger waves and roller sets. yuck!

Hopefully soon I will have another update!

The next chapter?

So I figured with all the time I have today while watching them pack my apartment I would finally post a blog.

As they pack my life in their giant boxes I am forced to admit that we are moving. This last month or two we have been nomads. Bouncing from place to place staying with friends and family. We have seen most everyone we wanted to. Saying goodbye but hoping to see them one last time. There's less than one week left before we pack up the kia (well for the second time it's already packed so that the movers don't pack what's in it) and take the long drive down to Louisiana.

Goodbye to winter, that was easy! Hello to the heat! When we get to Louisiana we are renting an apartment in Slidell which is just north of New Orleans and Lake Ponchatrain (if that's how you spell it.) We'll be in that apt for about 3 months and then hopefully we will have found an amazing house with a pool!

Chris starts work on July 6th. Only two weeks away! I on the other hand have no job. I get to retake my state boards. Booo! My test date is August 9th. I have a lot of studying to do! They want wet work on the manis. Roller set city here I come!

I just want to point out they packed all of our chocolate :(

This has been a crazy year! 3 different countries and a move cross our country. It has been amazing so far and I can only imagine what the other half will bring!

Sunday was a hard day for me. I had to say goodbye to my Grandpa and my Dad. It was sad, but surprisingly I held it together. We also had to say goodbye to some really great friends. I can only hope that everyone means it when they say they will visit! I will miss them all!

Here's to red beans and rice, po boys, and beignets! NOLA here we come... well in a few days :)

Christmas challenge

So I just got this email complaining about Christmas not being Christmas anymore. Here is my solution/challenge.

If you are one of the many who are offended by "Holiday shopping" and the fact that big retailers are celebrating "Holidays" rather than Christmas then I challenge you to not shop this year. That's right! Boycott Holiday shopping! They'll hear that loud and clear compared to an email that does nothing. Do Christmas the way it used to be! Take the "commercial" out of Christmas and spend it with your family and the people who you care about. Make something for your loved ones if you must give them something. Christmas is not about the latest and greatest toy but about family and friends spending time together.
